Reproduction of Betta splendens

The reproductive process of Betta splendens, also known as Siam Fighter, is very unique and complex. The males choose the female they want to mate with. If you offer a female and the male attacks or rejects her, you must immediately withdraw. If you don't proceed, the male will screw her up and even kill her.

A frequently used technique consists of assembling a small fish tank divided diagonally by a glass. On one side will be the male and on the other the female. So you can see if there is acceptance or rejection. If the male agrees, he will begin to build his bubble nest on the surface of the water.

The male takes care of the nest and helps the female in spawning. When the eggs hatch, the male moves each fry and teaches him to swim. After this stage, the male and female must be isolated from their fry. Feed them with artemia preferably.
